Mink, Sable, Silk or Synthetic
The main difference between the types of lashes comes down to their firmness.
Synthetic or Silk lashes are the heaviest, great for a really full thick look, often rated at 0.20mm in thickness.
Mink are usually thinner and softer than Silk rated at 0.15mm-0.2mm in thickness, but can also come thicker as well. The thinnest and softest is Sable of rated at 0.10mm-0.15mm.
I only use Mink or Sable, although Sable is really only recommended for those who have very thin natural eyelashes that have trouble supporting the weight of Mink and Silk. I can use Silk when requested by clients for certain events, weddings or one time use or if they really want it for everyday use as Silk is more affordable.
And I consult my clients to figure out the thickness that will work with their expectations.
All of my products are high quality lashes from Japan or Korea, as I find their quality is higher than most lashes I've used.
Mink Eyelashes
Mink Lashes are the new craze. If you’re going for that 100% natural look, this is the best you can get. Most people love Mink because they look so natural and give them full, fluffy eyelashes. I prefer these because they are more affordable, come very close to holding all the same characteristics except if you get them wet, they won’t lose their curl which is a huge advantage over real Mink.
-
Characteristics: Mink lashes are known to be very light and soft, making them a more comfortable choice over silk lashes. They also have a gloss or shin to them and have a more natural fluffy look.
-
Wearability: You should choose Mink lashes if you want extensions that you’ll be wearing for a prolong period of time. In other words, you plan on keeping them and continually retouched. The minks are also great if your own natural lashes are thinner, because the mink lashes are very light and soft. If you want a more natural looking lash which you can apply mascara to enhance, then Mink should be your first choice.
Note: You should only use mascara designed for extensions.
Sable Eyelashes
Sable eyelashes are made from natural hair like Mink and are the thinnest of the eyelash extensions.
-
Characteristics: The thinnest of the lashes rated at 0.10mm. They have all the same quality as the Mink lashes except they’re even lighter and softer.
-
Wearability: Since Sable lashes are the finest, they should really only be used if your natural eyelashes are very fine.
Silk Eyelash Extensions
When someone says Synthetic Lashes they are referring to either Silk or Acrylic.
Synthetic Silk being the more popular of the two for the lighter feel. Not as light as Mink or Sable, but they are more comfortable than Acrylic and can be used for everyday use.
-
Characteristics: Synthetic Silk Eyelashes cost less than Mink or Sable, they are great for short term wear or special occasions since they are thicker, full and have a uniformed perfect curve to them. Since they already hold such a dark pigment, there is no reason for mascara. They are usually much thicker than Mink or Sable lashes rated at 0.20mm.
-
Wearability: Choose Synthetic Silk eyelash extension for those special occasions. A wedding, a photo-shoot or a part in a film. You can use them as everyday lashes as well.

Curl, Thickness & Length
There are many types of lash curls. The following curls are the type I use and that you can choose from:
-
J- curl: the ‘least curly’ lash – with its very gentle curve this lash closely resembles the shape of natural eyelashes
-
B-curl: the most popular lash – the B Curl lash has a lovely soft curl which gives your lashes a natural yet enhanced ‘lift’
-
C-curl: Also a very popular lash – the C Curl opens the eye beautifully with its extra curl, blends very well with the B Curl
-
D-curl: the ‘curliest’ lash – the D Curl provides a real WOW effect – extreme lift and curl.
-
L-Curl: A relatively new lash curl – this lash has a straight base and then lifts upwards to create lift and curl for those with very straight or downward pointing lashes.

popular.
For the lash thickness I only use .15mm and 0.20mm as the rest is either too thin or too heavy for my clients.
Lash Thickness
Lashes come in five thicknesses –
-
.10mm: Very fine lashes, may even be finer than natural lashes at times, great to achieve an extremely natural look
-
.15mm: One of our most popular thicknesses – these lashes are lightweight enough to use on any natural lashes and when applied correctly you will not be able to tell they are lash extensions
-
.20mm: This is another of our most popular lash thicknesses – for a little extra oomph than the .15mm offers, the .20mm lash is suitable for most natural lashes and will offer clients a ‘mascara type’ effect – can be blended with .15mm lash to provide a very natural, yet beautifully enhanced set of lashes
-
.25mm: These lashes are fantastic for photographic work, brides and for occasions when very dramatic lashes are required – not necessarily for e.very day wear as they may be too heavy for the natural lashes of most clients, they can however be worn for short periods of time when the WOW factor is desired
-
.30mm: Again, these lashes are not for every day wear, however they are fantastic for photographic work and special occasions that require dramatic lashes (these lashes are ordered by request.
Lash Length
Lashes are available in 11 lengths, from 8mm to 15mm – it is generally agreed by technicians that lash extensions should be somewhere between 30 – 50% of the length of a clients natural lashes – this helps to ensure that natural lashes are able to support the lash extension satisfactorily – of course longer lashes may be applied for special occasions or as required, however clients may find that they fall off sooner than shorter lashes and they may also twist, droop or turn – all due to the extra length compared to natural lashes
